Everglades National Park · Florida
Everglades protects 1.5 million acres of wetlands, mangroves, and sawgrass prairie, and it is one of the best places in the country to see alligators and wading birds up close. The Anhinga Trail near the Royal Palm area is a short, easy boardwalk loop with lots of wildlife, and the Shark Valley tram tour is a fun way for kids to cover more ground. The dry season, roughly December through April, is the most comfortable time and has the fewest mosquitoes.
Hours, roads, and programs change with the seasons. Check current conditions on the official Everglades National Park website before you go.
