Great Basin National Park · Nevada
Great Basin runs from sagebrush foothills to 13,063-foot Wheeler Peak, with ancient bristlecone pines and some of the darkest night skies in the country. Ranger-led tours of Lehman Caves are a highlight for kids, so reserve ahead when you can, and the scenic drive up the mountain opens in summer. Ranger astronomy programs are another family favorite.
Hours, roads, and programs change with the seasons. Check current conditions on the official Great Basin National Park website before you go.
