Guadalupe Mountains National Park · Texas
Guadalupe Mountains protects the highest peak in Texas and part of an ancient fossil reef, with desert, canyons, and surprising fall color in McKittrick Canyon. For families, the short trail at Frijole Ranch and an easy walk to Manzanita Spring are good options, and the Pine Springs Visitor Center has exhibits and Junior Ranger books. It is remote with few services nearby, so bring water and a full tank of gas.
Hours, roads, and programs change with the seasons. Check current conditions on the official Guadalupe Mountains National Park website before you go.
