Yellowstone National Park · Idaho, Montana, Wyoming
Yellowstone was the world's first national park, with more than half of the world's geysers plus hot springs, canyons, and big wildlife like bison and elk. Families can watch Old Faithful erupt (check predicted times at the visitor education center), walk boardwalks through geyser basins, and see the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Stay on boardwalks in thermal areas and give wildlife plenty of room; most park roads close to regular cars in winter.
Hours, roads, and programs change with the seasons. Check current conditions on the official Yellowstone National Park website before you go.
