Manzanar National Historic Site · California
Manzanar National Historic Site in California’s Owens Valley preserves one of the camps where Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II. The visitor center exhibits and a self-guided driving tour help families understand this history; a reconstructed barracks block and mess hall are powerful stops. Summer heat is intense, so bring water and plan for mornings or evenings.
Hours, roads, and programs change with the seasons. Check current conditions on the official Manzanar National Historic Site website before you go.
