Alcatraz Island, part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area, is the famous former federal prison in San Francisco Bay. The ferry ride and cellhouse audio tour are memorable for older kids; younger ones may prefer shorter visits and outdoor areas. Ferry tickets sell out, so book early through the official partner listed on nps.gov.
