Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve · Alaska

Gates of the Arctic lies entirely north of the Arctic Circle and has no roads or trails; visitors arrive by small plane and travel on foot or by river. For most families, the best way to experience it is through the visitor centers in Fairbanks, Bettles, and Coldfoot, which have exhibits and ranger help. It is one of the wildest places in the country, home to caribou, wolves, and bears.

Hours, roads, and programs change with the seasons. Check current conditions on the official Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve website before you go.
