Haleakalā National Park · Hawaiʻi
Haleakalā on Maui stretches from a high volcanic summit down to lush rainforest on the coast. At the summit district, families can visit the visitor center and watch for nēnē, the Hawaiian goose; sunrise viewing requires a reservation, and it is cold at the top, so bring layers. In the coastal Kīpahulu District, the Pīpīwai Trail leads through a bamboo forest, which is a fun walk for older kids.
Hours, roads, and programs change with the seasons. Check current conditions on the official Haleakalā National Park website before you go.
