Joshua Tree National Park · California
Joshua Tree is where the Mojave and Colorado deserts meet, full of twisty Joshua trees and giant boulder piles that kids love to scramble on. The Hidden Valley Nature Trail, Barker Dam, Skull Rock, and the Cholla Cactus Garden are short, family-friendly stops. Fall through spring is the best time, since summer is very hot, and the visitor centers have Junior Ranger books.
Hours, roads, and programs change with the seasons. Check current conditions on the official Joshua Tree National Park website before you go.
