Muir Woods National Monument protects an old-growth coast redwood forest just north of San Francisco. Boardwalks and flat trails among the tall trees work well for little legs, and the visitor center has maps and Junior Ranger materials. Parking and shuttle reservations are often required, so check nps.gov before you go.
