About

Ordinary Midwestern family travel. Tested itineraries. Mistakes included. Kids unnamed.

Who we are

We’re a Kansas City family of five with three kids, trying to use these years with our kids well. We take the trips we can fit around real life: national parks when the calendar opens up, a ballpark when we’re nearby, and the ordinary stops in between.

How we travel

  • Visitor center first. We go straight there, talk with a ranger, and figure out the day from there.
  • Junior Ranger books. They’re often the first thing we grab at a park, and the kids work on them in the car and between stops. Here’s why Junior Ranger works for our family.
  • Write down what worked. Then what didn’t, and what we’d do again, so other parents can borrow the parts that fit their crew.

Trips we took vs. places we researched

We keep these separate. Our trip guides are trips we actually took, like three Washington national parks in nine nights and Rocky Mountain National Park and Coors Field. Our National Parks pages and ballpark kids guides are researched directories built from official National Park Service and team sources, not a list of places we’ve been. Fees, roads, and reservations change, so we link to the official pages for you to check before you go.

Our kids’ privacy

Our kids stay unnamed, and the photos we share are mostly backs, silhouettes, and landscapes.
